It is a pleasure to present a special selection of natural Georgian wines to you as a member of the Georgian Wine Club. I come from a traditional winemaking family in Kakheti, the wine region of Georgia, with centuries-old winemaking traditions. I grew up learning firsthand from my grandfather making natural wines using the oldest winemaking technologies – he made me part of every process first time when I was 6 years old. Despite an early exposure to what is now well-known as the oldest and what I believe to be the best in class winemaking technologies in the world, I decided to complement this knowledge with practices common in the western world. After graduating with master’s degree from Georgian State Agricultural University, I spent considerable time in Western Europe learning modern winemaking practices through practical training in several winemaking schools. This helped me understand the western palate better, which I later synthesized with centuries-old winemaking traditions in Georgia to make the finest Georgian wines and open the oldest winemaking traditions to the western world.

Three of four selected wines presented to you are made in Qvevri, which is an egg-shaped clay vessel buried in the ground and is among the world’s earliest examples of winemaking technology. Grapes are hand-picked at the optimum of their maturity in the second decade of September. After soft destemming, without crushing, grapes are transferred to Qvevri for fermentation, which lasts for about 3 weeks, followed by the malolactic fermentation. Later the Qvevris are refilled, sealed and left for 6-month long skin maceration until all residues fall to the pinched bottom as a natural way to filter the wine. The clay adds a finely nuanced element of minerality to the wine. Our Qvevri wines are made in very limited quantities. This collection of wines is exclusively handcrafted for the Georgian Wine Club members in the US and will not be offered anywhere else, so please do take the opportunity to bring these wines from our cellar to yours.

As a matter of fact, Georgia has over 525 indigenous grape varieties, more than France or Italy. Thus, we are constantly innovating with different varieties while merging old with new techniques, and as we build our relationship with you down the road, we are excited to provide you with exclusive selections and hopefully host you in Georgia one day. We look forward to enriching your palate with Georgian natural wines.

With best personal regards,
