Chardonnay, a white grape of French origin, is the most famous of the international grown-everywhere varieties because it gives its best wherever, retaining features that make it recognizable. Right from the first vintages, this wine was praised by international critics who continue to consider it a reference for the finest Italian enology. Brightly hued, intensely scented, and underscored with a hint of vanilla and a characteristic note of hazelnut, its taste is full and rotund and its organoleptic structure is so intense as to be comparable to a red, yet it lingers in your senses for its extraordinary finesse.

This 100% Chardonnay is sourced from six Chardonnay vineyards from the villages of Erbusco and Corte Franca. The vines were planted, on average, 31 years ago. The grapes are harvested and vinified utilizing our Metodo Ca’ del Bosco, where each bunch is meticulously selected, graded, and chilled before visiting our ‘berry spa’. After pressing in the absence of oxygen, only the best grape must from the first fraction is transferred into small oak casks for fermentation. The wine stays on the lees for at least 10 months, finishing complete malolactic fermentation. Bâtonnage is carried out weekly to bring the wine to a peak of harmony on the nose and complexity on the palate. Each parcel is treated separately until the final blend into bottle and resting in our cellar.

2015 was a spectacular vintage in every way, which exalts the fruit component from the grapes from each vineyard. This vintage was one of the hottest of the last decade, which led to very concentrated and ripe clusters. Our work in the vineyards countered these warm, dry conditions to utilize canopy management and emergency irrigation to bring nutrients and balance to the vines. Overall, these conditions produced intense, structured grapes that turned into wines that are bold and powerful, yet restrained.

Press Notes:

91 points, James Suckling: “Plenty of smoky-oak and ripe-mango character here, as well as lychees and hints of banoffee pie. Full-bodied and mouth-filling, round and spicy, this will please all lovers of bold, rich chardonnay. Drink now.”
