Pinot Nero is the bane and delight of the greatest grape growers in the world: hard to cultivate, it needs special care and is a rarity expressing all its greatness only in certain places in certain years. Ca' del Bosco took up the challenge and since 1983 has been making this world-class Pinot Nero, a synthesis of the terroir's extraordinary vocation. The result is a true and truly seductive wine with characteristic bouquet hinting at red currant, blueberry, blackberry, and raspberry. Mellow in taste, elegant and complex, and extraordinarily persistent.
Pinéro is a 100% Pinot Nero (Noir) from the Corte Franca and Erbusco villages. The wine consists of grapes from four selected vineyards with vine age averaging 31 years old. The grapes are all hand-sorted and picked, being placed in small crates that are graded by our expert vineyard team before being chilled. As with all of our wines, these grapes are processed with the Metodo Ca’ del Bosco. Each bunch was destemmed and fell into the stainless steel vat via gravity. We do not use any pumps to transfer these grapes to avoid broken skins and an unwanted herbaceous flavor. In 2015, maceration took 14 days with frequent punch-downs and gravity-transferred pump-overs. The wine then was then placed in small oak casks (50% new) for 11 months before bottling and cellar aging.
The spectacular vintage of 2015 was one where our vineyard team had to keep a continuous focus on our Pinot Nero vineyards. The consistent warm temperatures and hot sun could have led to damage in this grape variety. Working with our canopies and crop management, the 2015 vintage produced stunningly beautiful Pinot Nero that had firm tannins and ripe fruit for a stunning wine.
91 points, James Suckling: “An attractive pinot noir with blue-fruit, lavender and vanilla character. Medium to full body. Firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink now or hold.”
