Charles Heidsieck was one of the very first Champagne Houses to demonstrate its passion for Chardonnay by producing a Blanc de Blancs in its 1949 vintage. There is also evidence that the Maison had produced some mono-crus from the Côte des Blancs as early as 1906. Through this cuvée, relaunched in 2018, two of the House’s areas of expertise come together: the production of great white wines and the art of blending wines from different years and terroirs. The considerable challenge is to make opposites coexist: the tautness and the freshness of young chardonnays on the one hand, and the silky “Charles” character on the other.

This cuvée is 100% Chardonnay that is rich, generous, full in body, and in character. It holds the aromatic complexity that is the hallmark of Charles Heidsieck's wines. There is a velvety texture, thanks to 25% of reserve wines that comprise the final blend and long lees aging in the cellar

Press Notes:

92 points, William Kelley, Robert Parker Wine Advocate: “Based on the 2012 vintage, the latest rendition of Heidsieck's NV Blanc de Blancs incorporates some 20% reserve wines, derived from younger vintages to emphasize what Cyril Brun described as the "youthful" side of Chardonnay, in contrast to the mature expression of that cépage offered by the house's Blanc de Millénaires. Unwinding in the glass with aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, green apple and walnut oil, complemented by some of the empyreumatic nuances so typical of the base vintage, it's a medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and incisive wine that's lively and inviting. It was disgorged last year with nine grams per liter dosage.”
