This cuvée is built on the history of our House producing exceptional Blanc de Blancs for many years. It was in the early 1980s that our cellar master decided to reserve only the very best Chardonnay for a cuvée named “Blanc des Millénaires.” Over almost forty years since then, we have produced this very special cuvée only six times– 1983, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2004, and now, 2006. Our very rigid requirements for quality and aging potential mean that the Chardonnay fruit must be truly exceptional in a vintage for us to produce this wine.
This highly textured cuvée is made exclusively from Chardonnay from five of the finest Crus in the Côte des Blancs. These villages have been carefully selected for their ability to evolve and express their full richness: Oger for its structure, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger for its finesse and minerality, Avize for its lushness, Cramant for its complexity, and Vertus for its luster and floral notes.
Despite extreme weather conditions, the 2006 harvest was a generous one and a vintage we recognized early would yield Chardonnay of spectacular quality. All of these conditions only served to help capture the intensity and freshness of our Chardonnay from these Grands Cru sites – perfect to declare a vintage for Blanc des Millénaires. The wine was aged for over 10 years on the lees with a Brut dosage of 7 g/L. It is rich, toasty, and concentrated and with further development will only intensify over the next 12-15 years.
96 points, Alison Napjus, Wine Spectator: “A textbook blanc de blancs in a relatively opulent style, with ample grilled nut, brioche and spice character alongside classic flavors of poached apricot, kumquat, oyster shell and lemon blossom. This rich profile is well-defined by racy acidity, sleek and well-cut, driving the long, lacy finish. A beauty. Drink now through 2035. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 4,500 cases made, 185 cases imported”
