Our Brunello Riserva comes from our Pianrosso vineyard. Grapes for this wine are sorted and selected directly in the vineyard, produced completely separately from our Pianrosso Brunello. The Riserva is a wine that is only produced in the very best vintages, only the 10th bottling since its inception in 1995. Our Riserva is fermented in stainless steel and glass-concrete vats before being aged for more than 3 years in large Slavonian oak barrels and at least 12 months of bottle aging.
If ever a vintage was deserving of a Riserva-level bottling, 2015 would be that vintage. You know from last year’s release of the Brunello Pianrosso 2015 (100 pts, James Suckling) that this vintage was one that gave everything the vines needed to produce grapes of incredible concentration and structure. Our team was meticulous in the vineyard, dropping fruit to only focus the energy of the vine on the very best clusters. This contributed to the power and exceptional ripeness of our grapes – but also the wonderful aromatics and freshness that signifies this vintage as being so special.
100 points, James Suckling – “The opulence of fruit and complexity of earth, meat, mushroom and cedar is breathtaking. It’s full-bodied, deep and powerful with so much intensity and depth. Chewy and layered, it goes on for minutes. Give it even more time. Try after 2023.”
