As you may recall, the Grosses Gewächs ("GG") designation is reserved for the finest dry Rieslings from the very best vineyard parcels in Germany, classified “Grosse Lage”– our equivalent of Burgundy's “Grand Cru.” Only wines from these top-rated sites are bottled with a single-vineyard designation. All of these wines are also classified as Alte Reben, meaning “old vines". The commonly accepted age for Alte Reben in the Mosel starts from 25-35 years old, however we only use that designation on vines aged 75 years or more.

The Spice Garden of Ürzig – Blazing red and insanely steep, the Ürziger Würzgarten vineyard fills the picturesque amphitheater formed by this dramatic bend in the river. It produces wines with exotic, spicy aromas that are bursting with tropical fruit flavors. The estate’s oldest vines are found here.

Press Notes:

91-94 points, Mosel Fine Wines: "This cask sample proves still quite closed and driven by some almond cream and residual scents from its spontaneous fermentation. It is only after extensive airing that it reveals some elegantly floral scents of tangerine, vineyard peach, and spices. The wine is quite refined and delicate on the overall rather smooth and fruit-driven palate. Flavors of juicy yellow peach convey a not fully dry-tasting feel to the otherwise beautifully complex and lingering finish."
