2013 in the Rhône Valley is known as a challenging vintage with some complicated early weather, but conditions improved markedly late in the vintage. Those wineries that could delay harvest, like Domaine du Clos des Tourelles, were rewarded with beautifully mature fruit. The vinification process is very traditional, with whole cluster fermentation using indigenous yeast, aging in oak casks for 15 months, and bottling without filtration.
"Bright violet. Aromas of ripe red and blue fruits, along with exotic suggestions of smoky Indian spices and potpourri. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering concentrated boysenberry and black raspberry flavors that tighten up slowly on the back half. Finishes spicy and very long; fine-grained tannins sneak in late to add shape and grip." – 92 Points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media
