Our family was one of the first producers of the Aglianico grape in Campania and one of the pioneers of the now famous Taurasi DOCG. Wines produced from Taurasi are known as austere and complex, with excellent drinkability and great aging potential. A modern interpretation of the style of the great Taurasi of the '50s and' 60s, Stilèma Taurasi, 100% Aglianico, is the result of a work of composition and conjunction of different yet synergistic micro-territorial stories, which create a unique and complex expressive force. Pietradefusi, Montemarano, Paternopoli and Mirabella Eclano are the different family sites from which the grapes come, different in altitude, microclimate and soils.

Specificity in the soil types is so important to the texture and style of this wine. Pietradefusi, at 350 meters above sea level, is rich in clay, as are the soils of Montemarano at 600 meters. Paternopoli is balanced between clay, silt and sand at 540 meters and you will find more sandy soils at Mirabella Eclano at 400 meters above sea level. The vines, all planted in 2000, produce very intense clusters of Aglianico that are hand-harvested. The maceration is short, only 7-8 days to avoid heavy tannins, while still extracting flavor and color. The wine is then aged for 24 months in Slavonian oak and French oak barriques before at least 24 months in bottle. Aglianico is one of the great aging varieties in the world and the wine produced here is no exception. This wine is meant for cellaring and can age for up to 50 years after release.

Press Notes:

96 points, Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast Magazine: “Wild berry, underbrush, tilled earth, leather and blue flower aromas shape the nose of this fragrant, stunning red. The newest Taurasi addition to the firm's already impressive line up, this is focused, terroir-driven and loaded with finesse. It delivers flavors of juicy wild cherry, crushed raspberry, blood orange, star anise and tobacco, framed in lithe, polished tannins and fresh acidity. While already enjoyable, it will also age well for years. Drink through 2030.”
