The 2009 vintage of the Juste Rosé from the Clos des Goisses is just the eighth rosé cuvée we have ever produced. 2009 was a year full of contrasts, but one that ended well! A harsh winter was followed by a stormy spring. Luckily five weeks of warm, dry weather just before harvest led to exceptional grape soundness that captured the beautiful potential and balance that Clos des Goisses can provide. The vintage is very fruity with moderate acidity due to sunnier weather than in 2008, similar to 2002.
This cuvée expresses beautifully the intensity and structure that this magnificent terroir brings, and owes its name of Juste Rosé to its pale pink color, evidence of a long and methodical aging process. This vintage we produced only 2,508 bottles and kept one-third in the cellar for further aging, so this is truly a limited release.
Total (100%) and traditional vinification in wooden barrels leads to more complexity without premature oxidation. Wines do not go through malolactic fermentation as their natural acidity compensates for the power of the terroir. The wine received an extended aging at a constant temperature of 12°C in the House’s historic cellars in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. The very low dosage of this Extra Brut (4.5 g/litre) gives full expression to the vinosity and minerality of this exceptional vineyard.
Blend: 64% Pinot Noir and 36% Chardonnay
Tasting note: To the eye the wine has a slightly coppery pale pink, with a consistent ring of bubbles. On the nose, it is very elegant with notes of cherries and pink berries. The palate is breathtaking, both powerful and subtle. The first fruit-laden aromas of raspberry lead into notes of kirsch with a very long and persistent finish.
