The 2016 vintage in Châteauneuf-du-Pape was another successive year of near-perfect weather, with pockets of intense heat and rain, arriving at just the right moments. After the very good 2015 vintage, 2016 had remarkably cool nights that off-set hot, dry days and a long, warm September. This balance ensured an abundant, perfectly ripe harvest. This is one of my favorite vintages I have ever produced and a wine that is big, powerful, with a generous fruit profile that counters the bold tannic structure. This is a wine that will increase in beauty and balance for many years in the cellar.
Blend: 80% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 5% Syrah
94 Points, Wine & Spirits Magazine: "An exotic, meaty Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Laurence Féraud’s négociant line, this is spicy with flavors of crushed herbs and curry. A dark minerality winds through it, firming the ripe fruit and drawing out the wine’s earthy character. It’s built for the cellar, or substantial dishes like boar chops or a mushroom-and-lentil stew."
