Centenaires is the rarest, special cuvée that I produce in Moulin-à-Vent. It is sourced from three different parcels planted on the three sides of the Cru. One in the south in the terroir of “La Teppe”, one in the terroir of “Les Bois Marechaux” on the north side, and one in the terroir of “Les Caves” on the west side on the hill. The three plots make up only 0.5 ha and utilize vines planted from 1872 to 1880, hence the cuvée’s name – literally meaning "century-old vines." These three parcels were planted before Phylloxera and are not grafted.

The grapes are all hand-harvested, vinified with 50% whole clusters for 3-4 weeks with moderate intervention. This wine is aged for 20 months with 30% in new French oak barrels. As this is a very unique cuvée, it is only bottled in magnum and benefits from extra development time in the cellar of at least 10 years. Only 432 magnums have been produced for the vintage, and we have only a small number available for this release.

Press Notes:

92 points, Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media: “Brilliant ruby. Primary red and dark berry aromas open up slowly, taking on bright Asian spice and mineral nuances. Sappy and perfumed, offering appealingly sweet, deeply concentrated black raspberry and cherry compote flavors and a bracing jolt of white pepper. Shows more red fruit character on the clinging, gently tannic finish, which features a sexy hint of candied flowers.”
