The Vigna Montebello Sette is a wine that was truly created in the vineyard. From the moment that these Sangiovese vines were planted in 2000, our viticulture team recognized that the spectacular clay soils, containing the iconic galestro (a rocky, schistous clay discovered in some of Tuscany’s top vineyards) and a perfect exposition, would create a truly special 100% Sangiovese wine. It was our intention from the very beginning to create a single vineyard ‘cru’ Chianti Classico that was pure in spirit and transcendent in quality.
The grapes from Montebello are manually harvested and sorted twice as they arrive in the cellar. The whole berries are primarily fermented in stainless steel, with a portion in French oak. After a 40-day maceration, the wine ages into 25HL French and Austrian oak casks for at least 18 months. This wine is extremely complex and sensual with an aromatic signature and palate of explosive cherry, tobacco, leather, licorice, and spice notes, with a firm, balanced structure of tannin and acidity, for a wine of both power and elegance. With the 2016 vintage, we are honored that this single-vineyard Chianti Classico has been rewarded with the highest designation in the Classico DOCG - Gran Selezione, for the fifth time.
“Lots of ripe, juicy fruit with dried-strawberry, plum, bark and chocolate character. Full-bodied with round tannins and a savory finish. More fruit-driven style for the appellation. Drink or hold.” 92 Points, James Suckling
