The jewel of Alsace, Rieslings from Clos Ste Hune are some of the most collected and recognized white wines in the world. This plot of land, a 1.5-hectare monopole in the Rosacker Grand Cru, has belonged to our family for over 200 years and was first produced in 1919. The vines, at more than 50 years of age, are planted on the famed Muschelkalk soils, calcareous with high percentages of limestone. These soils are perfect for Riesling, as they allow excellent development of concentration while maintaining the classic fresh, floral aromas of the grape variety.
Clos Ste Hune is always hand-harvested, with very detailed attention paid to each cluster during the entire growing season. The grapes are vinified without any oak to maximize the freshness and high acidity that Close Ste Hune is known for. The wine is then cellared for several years until it is at an optimal time for release. This Riesling is well-known for being one of the world's most age-worthy white wines.
8+ points, Ian d’Agata, Vinous Media: “Luminous straw. Penetrating nuances of lime and guava join the lemon verbena, jasmine, mineral and white stone fruit aromas on the knockout, captivating nose. Then dense, complex and multilayered, offering profound flavors of fresh citrus fruit, sweet spices and talcum powder. Closes extremely long, clean and precise; this is a young white wine of utterly mesmerizing beauty. I find this to be one of the best young CSHs I have ever tasted; it is stylistically different but almost on the same quality level as the marvelous 2010 CSH. One sniff (never mind taste) and I was left almost speechless - and I’m not usually one who keeps his mouth shut when I recognize a truly great wine.”
