At Canalicchio di Sopra, our mindset about our Rosso is that we view it as our base Brunello. By this, we look to produce the highest quality Rosso every vintage to truly showcase the potential for Sangiovese. The weather in 2018 provided challenges with humidity and very hot temperatures. However, as we focused on intense crop management to allow as much air as possible to the grapes, the vintage turned to be of quite high quality and beautiful fruit profile.
Our Rosso di Montalcino is 100% Sangiovese that comes from our youngest vines in the clay and mineral-based Canalicchio cru. The grapes see 15 to 20 days of maceration in temperature-controlled vats, and the wines are aged for one year in Slavonian oak casks and French oak casks before bottling. The resulting wines are a young, fruit-driven, and versatile expression of our Sangiovese, making them a great go-to wine for any night of the week.
