Our mindset when it comes to our Rosso is to treat it very much the same as our Brunello. By this, we look to produce the highest quality Rosso every vintage to truly showcase the potential for Sangiovese. 2019 was an incredible year in Montalcino, rated as a 5-star vintage, and one that will be fantastic in its youth and with further development in the cellar. The weather throughout the vintage was warm, but always in balance to create exceptionally ripe grapes, with fantastic acidity. Much like in 2016, we harvested earlier to maximize the freshness.
The Rosso di Montalcino is 100% Sangiovese that comes from our youngest vines in the clay and mineral-based Canalicchio cru. The grapes see 15 to 20 days of maceration in temperature-controlled vats, and the wines are aged for one year in Slavonian oak casks and French oak casks before bottling. The resulting wines are a young, fruit-driven, and versatile expression of our Sangiovese, making them a great go-to wine for any night of the week.

2018 vintage, 91 points, Eric Guido, Vinous Media – “The bouquet is rich, displaying foresty wild berry, sweet herbal tones, and spices, along with hints of earth and undergrowth. On the palate, silky textures give way to red berries with a savory mix of herbs and spice, zesty acids and minerals. The finish is long on tart wild berry fruits, zippy acids, saturating spices and lasting mineral tones.”
