From our prized Fonte vineyard in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, near the Pianrosso cru, comes this stunning expression of 100% Castelnuovo Sangiovese Grosso (the same clone of Sangiovese used in our Brunellos). This is the third vintage that we have bottled a special, single vineyard Rosso as this vineyard showcases a beautiful character that deserves to be highlighted on its own. These younger vines are located at 240-360 meters above sea level, all planted to galestro soils.
Fermentation occurs in a combination of stainless steel and cement vats. Aging takes place in Slavonian oak for 12 months before resting in bottle for a further 8 months prior to release. Our Rossofonte may be only classified as a Rosso but is always a great preview to the style and fruit of the Brunello wines from the vintage, especially in 2016.
93 Points, James Suckling. "A spicy Rosso di Montalcino that shows more glazed cherries and rose petals than most, as well as some delicious cinnamon and spices. Medium body, fine but hearty tannins and a medium-chewy finish. If only more wines from this category were as good as this! Drink now.”
