2018 was a vintage with many challenges that led to an even greater focus on each cluster for the very highest quality possible. Spring was very dry and temperate, which led to a summer growing season that brought high humidity and heavy mildew problems in the vineyard. As we farm our vineyards biodynamically, we are limited in the methods we may use to counteract these issues and must tend to each vine by hand. This led to significantly lower production in 2018 but the quality that we did produce was outstanding. This is a more concentrated and structured vintage, which will lead to even further aging capabilities and integration over time in the cellar.
92-95 points, Joe Czerwinski, Robert Parker Wine Advocate: “The 2018 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée is full-bodied but quite approachable and easy to drink, loaded with black cherries and plummy fruit and tinged with licorice. A blend of 80% Grenache, 6% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre and 10% other permitted varieties, it finishes long and silky.”
