This lieu-dit, or single parcel, is located in the northern part of the Côte-Rôtie appellation on a beautifully South/Southwestern facing slope on Côte Brune. The soils are what make this site so special, with a densely granitic foundation layered with mica schists, contributing to the intense minerality and structure of the final wine. All of the work done in this parcel is done by hand, including harvest. The grapes from Montmain go through a rigorous selection process both in the vineyard and in the cellar, making this also a rare bottling. Grapes are destemmed then macerated in concrete vats for 3-4 weeks before being transferred to French oak barrels for 12-16 months. This wine is 100% Syrah and has powerful concentration balanced with pronounced tannins and beautiful acidity – the hallmarks of a wine destined for long cellaring and continued development.

Press Notes:

94-96 points, Jeb Dunnuck – “From the more northern part of the appellation, the 2018 Côte Rôtie Lieu-Dit Montmain is a ripe, fleshy, undeniably sexy Côte Rôtie that's loaded with sweet blue and black fruits, spice box, flowery incense, and fruitcake-like aromas and flavors. With full-bodied richness, sweet tannins, and an expansive, opulent texture, it's going to drink nicely right out of the gate yet cruise in cool cellars for 10-15 years.”
